  2. Provide 2 medium sized bittergourd
  3. Take 1 lemon sized tamarind
  4. Get 1 small sliced onion
  5. Take 2 green chillies
  6. Use As per taste salt
  7. Provide 1 tsp red chilli powder
  8. Prepare 1 tsp turmeric
  9. Provide 2 tsp dessicated coconut
  10. You need 1 tsp roasted peanut
  11. Get 1 tsp roasted chana dal/ putane
  12. Use 1 tsp roasted sesame seeds
  13. You need 3-4 garlic pods
  14. Get 1 tsp cumin seeds
  15. Use As needed oil for deep frying
  16. You need For tempering
  17. Use 2 tsp oil
  18. Provide 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  19. Get 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  20. Take 1 tsp urad dal
Steps to make Karela podi:
  1. Wash and cut the karela in round thin pieces. Deep fry the pieces in oil and keep aside.
  2. In the same oil add the onions, green chillies,tamarind and fry till they turn golden brown and crisp.
  3. In a pan roast the peanuts, sesame seeds, dessicated coconut,roasted chana dal separately and allow them to cool and grind into powder.
  4. Then add the fried onions, chillies,tamarind, fried karela,garlic pods,salt, turmeric, red chilli powder into it and grind again coarsely. Fine powder can also be made according to taste but coarsely ground podi is preferred more.
  5. For tempering the podi heat oil in a kadai or pan and add mustard seeds,urad dal,cumin seeds. When they turn little brown in colour add the podi and mix well.
